The brand that I chose is called Danskin. I chose this brand because it is most relevant to something that I love to do which is dance. Danskin is one of the most popular fitness clothing brands for women that are physically inclined whether it be dance, yoga, sports, and/or gymnastics. I chose this brand because not only is it my absolute favorite, it was the first dancewear brand I was introduced to as a young dancer.
I was first introduced to this brand as a young dancer, probably at age 10, that’s when I first started taking dance very seriously which meant I actually had to look like a dancer. That’s when I also realized that purchasing dancewear can be very expensive, so the goal for my mom was to find some thing that wasn’t as expensive but yet valuable. Danskin is was brand that was very valuable, I didn’t have to gout of the way just to look for these items, most of the Danskin clothing was available at Walmart and other department stores.
According to Danskin.com their mission is to offer women and girls exceptional clothes for living while combining fashion, comfort, femininity, and professionalism. They have dedicated themselves to meeting the changing fashion wants and performance needs for active women and girls.  The history of this brand started in 1882 as a family owned business that began with creating leotards and tights for young dancers and slowly innovated themselves into a universal active brand for dancers, swimmers, yoga participants, and gymnasts. As this brand grew they wanted young women that engaged in all physical activities to be fashionable, professional and comfortable. As previously stated, Danskin began creating tights and leotards for young dancers centralized in New York City.  They later began creating fitness equipment for active women such as weights, toning balls, and yoga mats. This is a prime example of what the mission statement declares by serving different women who engage in different physical activities throughout the country.
Overall, the general public may perceive this brand to be a ‘’prima ballerina ’’ that sales tutus and leotards, but however has been created for women on a larger spectrum. Not every woman is a dancer, or yoga expert, or an athlete although most of these women gravitate to this brand, there are some women who just enjoy being comfortable but want to look and feel good while being just that.
